Ashley Emerick was born and raised in Allegany County. She worked her way through Frostburg State University while waiting tables, earning degrees in Psychology and Spanish. Like many Western Marylanders, she worked multiple jobs, balanced bills, and saw firsthand how hard it can be to build a stable life here.
During the COVID shutdown, Ashley began baking from home. What started as a way to get through a difficult time became AJ’s Cookie Jar, a small business in Downtown Cumberland. As a business owner, she understands rising costs, thin margins, workforce challenges, and the importance of a strong Main Street economy.
Ashley is running for State Senate because Western Maryland needs a stronger voice in Annapolis — one focused on affordability, housing, childcare, healthcare access, trades training, small-business support, and protecting our land and water. She believes District 1 deserves a senator who can work with the majority in Annapolis and bring results home.
